Christie's Magnificent Jewels raised $54.9mn

Hammered 120% above estimated and Sold 94% Magnificent Jewels by value   Christie’s New York December 8 auction of Magnificent Jewels achieved a total of $54,970,500 with 91% sold by lot, 94% sold by value, and 120% hammer above low estimate. There was global participation with registered bidders from 30 countries across five continents.  The auction achieved strong results for colored diamonds, including the top lot of the sale, an important fancy vivid yellow diamond pendant of 70.19 carats, VS2 clarity that sold for $2,850,000. Other notable results were achieved for a rare fancy vivid orangy pink diamond ring of 5.38 carats, VS2 clarity, which realized $2,670,000. Gem-studded lotus flower pendant unearthed Laura Geggel, of Science reported, a precious-gem-studded lotus flower pendant similar to one worn by ancient Egypt's Queen Nefertiti has been unearthed in a set of tombs in Cyprus. The pendant is one of hundreds of opulent grave goods from around the Mediterranean region that have been uncovered at the site, including gemstones, ceramics and jewelry.   Archaeologists from the New Swedish Cyprus Expedition first unearthed the two Bronze Age tombs, both underground chambers, in the ancient city of Hala Sultan Tekke in 2018. One hundred and fifty five human remains and 500 funerary goods were found in the tombs, placed in layers on top of one another, suggesting that the burial chambers were used over several generations.  "The finds indicate that these are family tombs for the ruling elite in the city," excavation leader Peter Fischer, professor emeritus of historical studies at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, said in

Over 501mn ton primary gold ore resources in India

About 44% of ore is lying in the land of Bihar   As per National Mineral Inventory, the total resources of primary gold ore in the country as on 1.4.2015 are estimated at 501.83 million tonnes (mn ton) with 654.74 tonnes of gold metal and out of this, Bihar is endowed with 222.885 million tonnes (44%) of ore containing 37.6 tonnes of metal.  These resources of gold in Bihar are categorized under United Nations Framework Classification [UNFC] code-333 (128.885 million tonnes containing 21.6 tonnes metal) and UNFC code-334 (94 million tonnes containing 16 tonnes metal).  The entire resource of gold ore in Bihar is located in Sono area of Jamui district.   During the last five years, Geological Survey of India [GSI], an attached office of Ministry of Mines, has carried G4 stage, reconnaissance survey for gold in parts of West Champaran district and G3 stage ‘preliminary exploration’ in Gaya district of Bihar following the guidelines of UNFC.   In West Champaran district, G4 stage explor

A total of 390 districts are identified as clusters based on the number of units working in the gem and jewellery sector.   Since the geographical area of a district can be very vast, the threshold was restricted to at least 1000 gem and jewellery units or a minimum 2,000 workers to be considered as a cluster. Rough price pulled up to $110 from US$86 per carat   Mountain Province Diamonds announce the results of its most recent December 2021 diamonds sale, as well as the aggregate sales results for the fourth quarter of 2021. During the most recent December 2021 sale, 388,573 carats were sold for total proceeds of $42.7 million (US$33.3 million), resulting in an average value of $110 per carat (US$86 per carat). FCRF reports healthy price in all Fancy Color diamond categories   The Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF) announced the results of the Q3 2021 Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI). Prices of Fancy Color Diamonds continued to rise across the board, with a 0.7% increase this quarter, and a 1.1% increase throughout the year. The general increase was led by Blues (0.8%), with Pinks and Yellows following closely behind (0.7% and 0.6% respectively). Pink/Purplish Pink:  Pink diamond prices continued to rise in Q3, led by the Fancy and Fancy Vivid grade categories. Fancy Pink 1 carats rose by 1.8% and Fancy Vivid Pink 5 carats rose by 1.7%. The lowest performance was seen in the 3 carat category in the Fancy grade, which decreased by -0.3%.   Blue: Blue diamond prices continued to rise in Q3, with the Fancy Vivid Blue category leading the charts: 8 carats rose 2%; 5 carats rose by 1.9%; and 1 carat rose by 1.5%. December could now grow as much as 11.5% YoY The 2021 holiday season appears to be on track to exceed the National Retail Federation’s forecast for record spending despite supply chain disruptions, inflation and challenges like the new Covid-19 omicron variant, NRF Chief Economist Jack Kleinhenz said.   “Now that we’re in December, the holiday shopping season is nearing the finish line,” Kleinhenz said. “The question is how have factors ranging from economic indicators to the twists of the Covid-19 pandemic affected the season so far, and what role will they play in the weeks that remain?   There’s no crystal ball to provide a definitive answer, but the latest data is encouraging and provides useful insights.
