                                             Held a successful online auction                                                                                          For special size rough diamonds   Jewellery Market Bureau:  Alrosa has successfully sold about 95 percent of lots at its digital auction in April. Digital twin technology allows clients to analyze goods remotely and trace polished diamonds up to the mine.   The digital auction took place from 1 to 22 of April without physical viewings, 238 clients registered. Alrosa sold 142 lots weighing about 2,040 carats for $8.8 million. Alrosa Dubai auction sole 138 rough diamonds! In December 2020, Alrosa held an auction for special size rough diamonds (weighing over 10.8 carats). The overall revenue amounted to $7.4 million. The company sold 138 rough diamonds with the total weight of 2,100 carats. Clients from Belgium, Israel, India and UAE (35 companies in total) purchased the goods.   “Alrosa held its last 2020 auction in Dubai and achieved good results. We have sold over 90% of auctioned diamonds that indicated a stable demand for our rough during the holiday season,” commented Evgeny Agureev, Deputy CEO of Alrosa.   Under the current legislation, Alrosa sells special-size (over 10.8 carats) rough diamonds at auctions only.  In March 2020, Alrosa suspended auctions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Customers participated in online auctions with detailed digital copies of each rough diamond provided for review and detailed analysis. The company started returning to the usual format in May.

This format allows customers to review and evaluate rough diamonds remotely through the digital twin technology.   The December auction became this year’s fourth held online for special size (over 10.8 carats) diamonds. At the auction, Alrosa sold 185 rough diamonds with a total weight of 2,400 carats. The overall revenue amounted to $7 million. Clients from Belgium, India, Israel, Russia and UAE (33 companies in total) bought the goods. “The latest digital auction’s results show that our clients are increasingly using this format, having appreciated all its advantages and opportunities.  In 2020, we held four online auctions for rough diamonds larger than 10.8 carats. We are happy to note that this format, despite being rather new, wins the customers’ trust, as at the December auction they bought 80% of goods,” commented
