CIBJO Congress 2023 held in Jaipur

Organised from 3rd to 5th October Gem & Jewellery industry pledges to enhance Trust, Transparency, Sustainability, Traceability & Responsible Sourcing thru’ self-regulation The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) held its annual Congress for the first time in Jaipur at Fairmont, Jaipur. The Congress is being organised from 3rd to 5th October. Pre-Congress meetings were held on 1st and 2nd October. The 2023 Congress is being hosted by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) and the National Gem & Jewellery Council of India (NGJCI) supported by Ministry of Commerce and Industry and MSME Ministry, Govt. of India. CIBJO Technology Committee publishes the Report!     With just six days to go to the opening of the 2023 CIBJO Congress in Jaipur, India, on October 3, 2023, the tenth and final edition of this year’s pre-congress special reports has been released. Prepared by the CIBJO Technology Committee, headed by Stéphane Fischler, the report looks at the impacts of new technologies on the jewellery industry, and in particular those related to artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, and big data.   “We need to learn as we move along, investing in digital infrastructure and talent, and using the data we capture in a legal and optimal fashion,” Fischler writes. “To prosper in this brave new world, we have to innovate in order not to be left behind.”   All of the various system discussed are dependent on the availability of data, collected via the Internet, and also increasingly from the data generated by the new technologies being introduced, he states. “But...

CIBJO releases Ethics Commission Special Report, Focuses on impact and implications of revised FTC Guides With fewer than five weeks to go to the opening of the 2018 CIBJO Congress in Bogotá, Colombia, on October 15, 2018, the fifth of the CIBJO commissions' Special Reports has been released. Prepared by the CIBJO Ethics Commission, headed by Tiffany C. Stevens, the report focuses exclusively on the newly revised Guides for the Jewelry, Precious Metals, and Pewter Industries, released in July by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. The report is co-authored by Ms. Stevens and Sara E. Yood. Addressing comments that had been heard in the jewellery industry that the FTC Guides seem to disregard harmonisation efforts made by the international trade, Ms. Stevens and Ms. Yood note that the primary focus of the American agency is somewhat different.
