Lulo recovers 131 carat type IIa diamond

The 4th +100 carat diamond recovered in 2022    Lucapa Diamond Company announces the recovery of a 131 carat white Type IIa diamond by Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo (SML). The 131 carat stone is the 29th +100 carat diamond ever recovered and the 4th +100 carat diamond recovered at Lulo in 2022.  In a comment on the occasion, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, said “Angola has proven, yet again, its enormous diamond potential. Impacting both rough and polished diamond prices!   Lucapa Diamond Company Limited presented its activities report for the Fourth Quarter (4Q) ending 31 December 2020. The consumption and strong demand that saw the diamond industry commence its recovery in Q3 2020 continued into the festive period, favourably impacting both rough and polished diamond prices. 130 carat diamond recovered at Lulo Lucapa Diamond Company and its partners Endiama and Rosas & Petalas are announced the recent recovery of a 130 carat gem quality diamond from the Lulo Diamond Project in Angola. The 130 carat diamond is the 13th +100 carat diamond recovered to date and the second recovered so far in 2019. This recovery, together with the continued recovery of other large Special white and fancy coloured diamonds continues to highlight the very special nature of the Lulo diamond concession. The 130 carat diamond adds to the current inventory of high-value large Special run-of-mine diamonds, including top colour white diamonds, weighing 128 carats and 62 carats, as well as a number of fancy pink coloured diamonds. The majority of the diamond inventory is scheduled for sale this quarter by the alluvial mining company, Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo; however, some diamonds may be extracted and held for tender at a later date. 90% resource increased in Lulo

Situ resource increased up to 80,400 carats at Lulo The Lulo Diamond Resource was independently estimated and reconciled on a depletion and addition basis as at by external consultants Z Star Mineral Resource Consultants (Pty) Ltd. The updated Lulo Diamond Resource was estimated after accounting for, 19 months of mining depletion at Lulo to 31 December 2018, during which time >30,000 carats of diamonds were recovered and sold for ~US$62 million. The definition of additional resources and improving knowledge on existing resource areas from an extensive ongoing resource-definition drilling and sampling program which included an additional 4,200 auger holes that is of 36K metres drilled and diamond sales at prices above the previous resource estimate dated 31 May 2017. The first parcel of Mothae exported to Antwerp

The parcel consists of about 2,500 carats, including  Six top-colour Type IIa Lulo white diamonds Lucapa Diamond provides an update on diamond sales from the Lulo alluvial diamond mine in Angola. As previously advised, Lucapa has been supporting its Angolan Government partners as Angola establishes the technical regulations for the recently-gazetted diamond marketing policy being introduced as part of the Government’s diamond sector reforms. As part of these discussions, Lulo alluvial mining company, Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo, is preparing to sell certain select large premium-value diamonds in what will be the first Lulo production to be sold through the new marketing channels. The diamonds were extracted from run of mine production at Lulo and held over from previous sales by SML in anticipation of the new marketing policy being introduced. They include six top-colours Type IIa white diamonds weighing a total of 449 carats, along with a 46 carat pink diamond.
