Piyush Goyal Inaugurates the Virtual Edition!

Uddhav Thackeray extends cooperation to attain the global GJ Hub Stature!

Update 1: In a grand Virtual Auditorium, GJEPC held opening ceremony with two key players, Uddhav Thackeray, CM- Maharashtra & Piyush Goyal-MoI&C as a Distinguished Guest of Honour in the presence of CoA GJEPC, trade fraternity, exhibitors, Visitors & related stake holders of the gem-n-jewellery (GJ) industry & trade! 

At the occasion Nirmala Sitharaman, MoF & Corporate Affaire send her message & said, “Happy to note that GJEPC is organising the virtual format of its flagship show IIJS from 12th -16th October 2020. Congratulations to GJEPC team for taking this proactive step and making tremendous effort in hosting the meet with prevailing Covid-19 pandemic. 

Over the years, the Indian gem & jewellery sector has contributed immensely to the economy of the country; and GJEPC continues to play a leadership role in taking the Indian gem & jewellery industry to greater heights!” 

In his welcome speech Chairman, GJEPC said about the Virtual endeavour of IIJS 2020, “it is always looks difficult unless it is being done!” He acknowledged the Union Governments support and Cooperation from the State Government to keep industry vibrating and export activities. 

The State Government allowed export activities amid Covid-19 pandemic and in the month of May was a great cooperation! On the back of governments’ support manufacturing activities are back up to 80% to 90%! 

He also explained how the GJEPC endeavoured by announcing conducting several trade initiatives digitally and virtually during the Covid-19 lockdown! He also referred the trade issue including the issue of SEZ. Colin Shah said, “To reform SEZ Policy is the need of an hour!” 

Vice-Chairman, Vipul Shah said, “This is the ideal time to stock and re-stock for the imminent season!” by referring the industries decision & that halted the rough diamond’s import in India. He also acknowledged the cooperation from two biggest rough diamond players, 1: Alrosa & 2: De Beers. He said their decision remained effective for buyers to go on ‘flexibility’ buying system.  

The Virtual IIJS 2020 is powered by GIA. Being a powered player, Sriram Natarajan, GIA India said, “The show is showing how to live in this new normal!” He said in the meantime the problem itself gets change, while we are busy in solving the problem! He also referred and presented an update about the GIA. 

In a key note, Piyush Goyal said, “I have proud to launch the IIJS 2020 virtually! GJEPC exports show a resilient active! This is the act of tech to reach out customers’ through virtual platform and just ahead of festive season! He said, “We are enough strong to face any situation and we are sharing well as a committed partner in the world.”

Being a Distinguished Guest of Honour, Uddhav Thackeray also said about the ongoing new normal. He underlined: ‘Show must go on, even if the situation is adverse!’ He said Jewellery is our tradition, our ritual value in India. 

Uddhav Thackeray said, “We are ready to support gem-n-jewellery industry to attain its’ wish to be a global GJ Hub stature!” 

By referring various support of Maharashtra government to the GJ Industry, including Jewellery Park near Mumbai, he said, the only condition for the support is to generate an employment in the State!
