Dhanteras jewellery sale fell by 10% YoY
Though many jewellers reported growth in 2020!
Following Dusshera 2020, jewellers were eyeing upon another largest occasion for jewellery buying. De facto fraternity worked hard to ensure Dhanteras sales. Buyers celebrated the festival and carried on jewellery buying amid all those safety norms for Covid-19. They pushed up jewellery sales yet over all the sales could not reached to the overall sales of 2019, It is estimated a short by 10% YoY (Year over Year.)
Although many reported and claimed a growth of 10% to 30% in this Dusshera over the previous year yet the overall ground reality could not draw a conclusion of such growth! Let’s learn through direct expression of key jewellers’ pan India.
Aditya Pethe, Director, WHP Jewellers said, “Looking at the day so far, we can say that it has been very good. This Dhanteras is looking very promising in terms of what we had initially expected. As far as the sales are concerned we’re confident that we’d do as well as last year or even better, given how this particular day has been going.”
Ishu Datwani, Founder, Anmol said, “Very good build up for Diwali for the last one week which is a strong indicator of a normal Dhanteras & Diwali. In fact the excitement in clients is palpable which we haven’t seen in the last few years.
Today since morning the footfalls are decent, but we expect the footfalls to increase as the day goes by. In terms of percentage of increase in sales, we expect sales to be equal to or even more than last year.”
Tanya Rastogi, Director, Lala Jugal Kishore Jewellers expressed the occasion & said, “This year as we know, Dhanteras has been divided into 2 days and we will know how the sales will be at the end of the day. Having said that there has been a lot of activity that has been taking place at the stores though people are a little apprehensive because of corona, they have been coming in, selecting their pieces and setting tokens for the jewellery.
We’ve been seeing a rush since last night and early this morning as well, considering we have started the day earlier than usual. Looking at how the day has been going, we’re expecting a good Dhanteras this year. If we look at things from a year on year basis we’re expecting to see almost and 80-90% of sales as compared to last year.”
Vaibhav Saraf, Director, Aisshpra Gems and Jewels said, “We have witnessed a good footfall today with an increase of at least 7% as compared to last year which is good for Covid times. People are less scared of Corona and are steeping out to do their festive shopping. As per the muhurat, we are expecting good footfall today as well. People are opting for jewellery more compared to coins and bullions.”
Snehal Choksey, Director, Shobha Shringar Jewellers, “ This is a very special Dhanteras than any of the years before as it marks the momentous occasion of us coming out of the Covid hangover and getting into a festive environment. We're seeing equal number of walk-ins and bookings as we have seen every year.”
