Hari Krishna Group, a leading name in the Gems and Jewellery industry, organized a blood donation drive on 13th February 2021 at The Capital, BKC-Mumbai. The donation camp was held on the occasion of HK’s 8th anniversary at The Capital building, BKC. The drive was open for all.
Organizing the camp was intended to outstretch the awareness about blood donation and its importance in saving human lives. HK group solemnly holds blood donation drives thrice a year. Over 11,152 units of blood have been collected so far, from such drives at the company's Surat and Mumbai offices.
The event was graced by Dr. Rajesh Dere, Dean in In charge of Jumbo Covid Center, BKC, Sachin Rane- Sr. PI, BKC, Satish Vyas – Gujarati Writer and other dignitaries from the diamond industry.
Speaking about the occasion, Ghanshyam Dholakia, Founder, and Managing Director, HK Exports Pvt Ltd., said, “Blood donation is one of the finest gestures one can make to save people's lives.
In every two seconds, there may be a patient waiting for a blood transfusion to survive, making it to over 38000 units of blood demanded a day. Unfortunately, many of such patients requiring transfusion do not have timely access to safe blood.
In 2020 total 11 million blood donations are collected in India, which is an increase of 1% in the blood shortage or a need for blood donation compared to 2019.
There is no substitute for human blood, it is matchless. Even it cannot be simulated, he continued. Adults have on an average 10 units of blood in their body, roughly one unit of blood shared during donation. Your one unit of blood can save the lives of up to three people.
The aim of arranging a drive for this noble cause is to bridge the blood shortage gap and empower humanitarian responsibility of saving lives, he explained. While honouring all regular blood donors today, we also hope that young people might be encouraged to be frequent blood donors to aid in saving people's lives.”
This
blood donation drive was concluded by giving a token of appreciation to all the
donors. The blood donors were presented with backpacks, certificates, and books
along with their donor cards.
