GDP India showing a growth of 8.4% Q2 

The National Statistical Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation is releasing the estimates of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the second quarter (July-September) of 2021-22 (Q2 2021-22), both at Constant (2011-12) and Current Prices, along with the corresponding quarterly estimates of expenditure components of the GDP in this press note. 

GDP at Constant (2011-12) Prices in Q2 2021-22 is estimated at `35.73 lakh crore, as against `32.97 lakh crore in Q2 2020-21, showing a growth of 8.4 percent as compared to 7.4 percent contraction in Q2 2020-21.  Quarterly GVA at Basic Prices at Constant (2011-12) Prices in Q2 2021-22 is estimated at `32.89 lakh crore, as against `30.32 lakh crore in Q2 2020-21, showing a growth of 8.5 percent. 

GDP at Current Prices in Q2 2021-22 is estimated at `55.54 lakh crore, as against `47.26 lakh crore in Q2 2020-21, showing a growth of 17.5 percent as compared to 4.4 percent contraction in Q2 2020-21. GVA at Basic Prices at Current Prices in Q2 2021-22 is estimated at `49.70 lakh crore, as against `42.54 lakh crore in Q2 2020-21, showing a growth of 16.8 percent.

GDP at Constant (2011-12) Prices in April-September 2021-22 (H1 2021-22) is estimated at `68.11 lakh crore as against `59.92 lakh crores during the corresponding period of previous year, showing a growth of 13.7 percent in H1 2021-22 as against contraction of 15.9 percent during the same period last year. 

GDP at Current Prices in H1 2021-22 is estimated at `106.77 lakh crore as against `86.15 lakh crores during the corresponding period of previous year, showing a growth of 23.9 percent in H1 2021-22 as against contraction of 13.4 percent during the same period last year. 

Estimates of GDP along with GVA at Basic Prices by kind of economic activity, Expenditure Components of GDP at Constant (2011-12) and Current Prices for Q2 2019-20 to 2021-22 and H1 2019-20 to 2021-22 are given in Statements. The Q2 2021-22 estimates are based on First Advance Estimates of agricultural production during Kharif season of 2021-22 obtained from the Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers’ Welfare; estimates of production of major livestock products data obtained. 

Index of Industrial Production (IIP), monthly accounts of Union Government maintained by Controller General of Accounts (CGA) and of State Government maintained by Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) have also been used. 

Besides, performance of key sectors like Transport including Railways, Road, Air and Water Transport, Communication, Banking and Insurance during the period July-September 2021-22 and the performance of corporate sector during the same period based on data received from BSE/NSE have also been taken into account while compiling the estimates. 

The next release of quarterly GDP estimates for the third quarter (October-December) of 2021-22 (Q3 2021- 22) will be on 28.02.2021.
