BDB unites in tribute with pride India’s Iron Man

 

BDB observes 150th Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel  

The Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) sparkled with pride and unity as it commemorated a month woven with history, achievement, and collective memory. Hundreds of diamond merchants, staff, and senior leaders came together to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel—India’s Iron Man and architect of national unity—with a spirited, Run for Unity; and the vibrant observance of Ekta Diwas.  

A Grand Tribute to the Architect of Unity: On October 31st, echoing the nationwide call by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, the BDB campus in Bandra-Kurla Complex was abuzz with the energy of over one hundred members and employees participating in the dynamic run. The event was not just a show of athleticism but a powerful testament to the ideals Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel espoused—a vision that transformed a fractured land into a singular, united nation.

Sardar Patel’s legacy, as the man who inspired the integration of over 500 princely states, continues to be a guiding beacon. His unwavering resolve and dedication to the nation—qualities that earned him the title, Iron Man of India; were remembered and celebrated as participants laced up for the marathon. The event’s theme, unity in diversity, was realized in the collective will and camaraderie displayed by the BDB community.  

Celebrating BDB’s Own Historic Milestones: This memorable month also saw the BDB mark its 41st Incorporation Year and the 15th Anniversary of serving as a cornerstone of India’s Diamond Industry within the Bandra-Kurla Complex. These milestones, arriving auspiciously in the same period as Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary, highlight the BDB’s sustained commitment to excellence, innovation, and shared growth within the global gems and jewellery sector.  

Remembering the Iron Lady of India: Amidst these celebrations, the BDB paused to acknowledge the solemn significance of October 31st—the death anniversary of Shrimati Indira Gandhi, India’s first female Prime Minister and revered "Iron Lady." Her indomitable spirit and unwavering leadership continue to inspire, reminding all present of the enduring impact of committed governance and courage in the nation’s history.  

Leadership, Participation, and Exemplary Spirit: The event was graced by the enthusiastic participation of BDB Board members Kiran Gandhi, Jagdish Somani, and Saket Mehta Convener BDB Sport Committee, lent a special vibrancy to the proceedings—personally wishing all race participants, emphasizing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s towering contributions to Indian unity, and ceremoniously flagging off the marathon.

In his speech, Shri Mehta lauded the seamless organization by Sanjay Gupta, Maheshchandra Kaloni and Samir Jha, praising their swift and excellent coordination which ensured the event’s success. Expressing gratitude on behalf of the entire BDB, he further thanked the Board of Directors and senior colleagues for their unwavering support and exemplary leadership.  

Words from Afar: Mehul Shah’s Tribute: While unable to attend in person, Mehul Shah, Vice President BDB ever a stalwart advocate of unity, shared heartfelt wishes for the Run for Unity. Reflecting on the occasion, he expressed, "Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy is not just one of political unification, but of fostering a collective spirit. His life reminds us that when we come together for a common purpose, we can achieve the impossible. As the Bharat Diamond Bourse family, we honour his memory by continuing to build unity within our own community."  

The Spirit of Ekta at BDB: The culmination of these remarkable observances was a stirring demonstration of the core values that define both Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's legacy and the Bharat Diamond Bourse’s institutional character: unity, leadership, and service. The Run for Unity and Ekta Diwas celebrations rejuvenated collective purpose and enthusiasm, reflecting not only on the nation’s proud past but also lighting the path ahead for the BDB’s continued brilliance.  

Amid the diamonds’ glitter and the shared strides of unity, this October will long be remembered as a month when the Bharat Diamond Bourse recommitted itself—body, mind, and heart—to the spirit of a united India, honouring both its heroes and its own luminous journey forward.
