De Beers-sourced diamonds over 0.5 carats in polished size   De Beers Group announced it will provide data on country of origin for all De Beers-sourced rough diamonds above 1.25 carats that are newly registered on the Tracr platform, the world’s leading digital platform for tracing natural diamonds from source at scale.   From the start of 2025, this will be extended to rough diamonds above 1 carat in size (equivalent to approximately 0.5 carats and above in polished form), thereby aligning with the size threshold for new diamond import requirements for G7 countries. For the first time, this will enable diamond jewellery consumers at scale to engage with the unique journeys their diamonds have taken from source. The inclusion of specific origin data reinforces De Beers' commitment to transparency, ethical sourcing and consumer confidence as it continues to deliver on its Origins strategy.  The announcement was made at a Spotlight on Diamonds event hosted in Paris and attended by a

Diamond industry’s significant challenges

Much needed traceability for diamond supply chain!   In the recently published DMCC’s report, The Future of Trade, Provenance, Traceability and Technology said, the diamond industry faces significant challenges, including changing consumer behaviour, the rise of Lab Grown Diamonds (LGD) and the G7 import restrictions. At this critical time there is a need for advanced traceability solutions to maintain the integrity and sustainability of the diamond supply chain.   Events such as DMCC’s Provenance, Traceability and Technology Forum, hosted alongside Original Luxury  in May 2024, have successfully gathered hundreds of the world’s leading diamond industry stakeholders to Dubai to discuss the main challenges linked to advancing traceability solutions in the diamond industry. The forum proved that while significant progress has been made, key challenges remain in ensuring transparency, combatting the trade of conflict diamonds, and adhering to evolving regulatory requirements. DMCC’s report on diamond, emphasises traceability & transparency  DMCC has released its latest Future of Trade report, a special edition focused on advancing traceability in the global diamond supply chain. The report outlines six key recommendations! Industry must set its own standards: Industry must preserve the ability to set its own standards when it comes to traceability by setting up a task force of industry experts, the “Expert Group on Traceability and Transparency”, to outline recommendations of minimum viable levels of traceability and transparency by March 2025.  Develop an interactive ledger: Industry must maintain a comprehensive register of available technologies, detailing their capabilities, limitations, unique features and areas of technological and economic viability. Promote a technology-agnostic approach: To fully embrace digital innovation, it is important to maintain a “technology-agnostic” approach to safeguard the dynamic nature of traceability technologies.

De Beers Group confirms preparedness

Needed readiness next phase of G7 diamond import   With the expansion of G7 import restrictions on Russian diamonds on 1 September, De Beers Group is fully prepared to meet the requirements that now extend to diamonds of 0.5 carats and above.    De Beers’ proprietary Best Practice Principles and Pipeline Integrity standards have long provided assurance on the provenance of its diamonds. With these programmes, De Beers’ rough diamond customers will continue to be able to provide evidence of diamond provenance as the size threshold included in the G7 import restrictions reduces from 1 carat to 0.5 carats.  De Beers welcomes the moves that the G7 has made to work with industry and diamond producing countries, with an extension of the sunrise period, a focus on the end goal of traceability and the implementation of a practical approach for ‘grandfathered’ diamonds purchased before the introduction of restrictions on Russian supply.    De Beers is committed to diamond traceability,
