Commerce and Industry Ministry Committed to Synergise Export Promotion and Internal Trade: Piyush Goyal The Union Minister of Commerce and Industry & Railways, Piyush Goyal, chaired a joint Meeting of Board of Trade and Council of Trade Development & Promotion and held a day long interaction with the industry and Agriculture Ministers of the States, industrialists, Export Promotion Councils, and representatives of the economic and infrastructure Ministries of the Central Government for boosting exports and domestic manufacturing and reducing trade deficit. Briefing media at the end of the meeting, Piyush Goyal said that Ministries & their departments can no longer work in isolation for effective outcome of government policy. India Trade promotion bodies in 15 countries To promote exports of SMEs from India Union Minister of Commerce &Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, said that the Ministry is examining the proposal to set up trade promotion bodies in 15 countries to promote exports of SMEs from India. Suresh Prabhu was speaking at the inaugural session of the 15th Global SME Business Summit in New Delhi.   The Minister informed the participants of the Summit about the commitment of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry towards the growth of the SMEs that are the pivot of the overall economic growth of the country. The Minister spoke about the changing of trade regimes globally and establishment of new trade routes based on availability of labour and skill. Suresh Prabhu reviews progress of Sectoral Export Promotion Strategy Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, recently reviewed the sectoral export promotion plans prepared by Ministries and Departments of the Government of India. The Commerce Ministry is focusing on nine sectors- gems and jewellery, leather, textile and apparel, engineering, electronics, chemicals and petrochemicals, pharma, agri and allied and marine products - to boost exports. This was the third inter-ministerial meeting on Sectoral Export Promotion Strategy. The meeting was attended by Commerce Secretary, DG Foreign Trade (DGFT),Secretaries of Textiles and Chemicals and Petrochemicals, other senior officers from Ministries and Departments of Electronics, MSME, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Defence Production.
