Sierra Leone XAG surveyed 75%

Countrywide Survey is flying to end! The Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the National Minerals Agency (NMA) informs that Xcalibur Airborne Geophysics (XAG), the company contracted to undertake the countrywide airborne geophysical survey, has successfully surveyed and collected data of over 75% of the country. The Company has flown a total of 411,548.5-line km, with an outstanding 135,994.5-line km. We further wish to inform the Public that due to the advent of the rains, which distort radiometric survey readings and affects pilot and aircraft safety, the airborne survey, has been suspended and will recommence in October 2019 for completion of the remaining 25% of the survey. The Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources informs the general public that the Hon Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, officially launched the three (3) Mineral Sector Policies on Thursday, 9th May 2019 at the Bintumani. The three (3) Mineral Sector Policies are the ‘Sierra Leone Minerals Policy’; ‘The Geo-data Management Policy of Sierra Leone’; and the ‘Artisanal Mining Policy’. 1: The Sierra Leone Minerals Policy: This Policy was prepared as part of series of legal, regulatory and institutional reforms introduced by the Government to ensure that Sierra Leone maximizes gains from the mineral resource endowments. 2: The GEO-Data Management Policy of Sierra Leone: This Policy outlines how Government intends to manage geological information to help all actors. Rapaport Trade Mission Meets Sierra Leone Diggers Proposes Local Competitive Auctions The Rapaport Trade Mission to Sierra Leone attracted a strong group of 29 international diamantaires and jewelers from the US, India, UAE, UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Canada, Spain, and Israel. For many, the trip was transformative as they visited the diggers in their villages and came face to face with the challenges and opportunities confronting the artisanal digger communities. Two days were spent up-country in Kono, where the group met with the paramount chiefs, visited diggers and digging sites, and had dinner with 50 members of the Kono District Miners Union. A highlight of the trip was the visit to Koryardu, the village where the Peace Diamond was discovered. A new medical center, school, and road are being constructed. The Director General of the National Minerals Agency, Julius Mattai, encouraged investors in Ghana to take advantage of the major opportunities for investment in the mining sector in Sierra Leone, where the Government is undertaking major reforms to make life easy for investors. Making a presentation on ‘What investors can take advantage of in the Minerals Sector in Sierra Leone’, at the Sierra Leone Investment Seminar. Julius Mattai informed a cross section of Government officials and investors that Sierra Leone is richly endowed with an abundance of minerals, including diamonds, gold. The Ministry hereby announces for the information of the general public that only the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and its implementing Agency the National Minerals Agency (NMA) have the mandate to regulate and make public pronouncements on mining matters on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone. Nationwide airborne Geophysical survey in Sierra Leone The President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Brigadier (Rtd.) Julius Maada Bio, commissioned a Nationwide Airborne geophysical survey for Sierra Leone on Monday 28th January 2019, at the Presidential Lounge of the Lungi International Airport. Funded by the World Bank, under the second phase of an Extractive Industries Technical Assistance Project (EITAP-2), the survey is the first step to help determine the full extent of the country’s mineral potentials, with the view of attracting foreign direct investments into the minerals sector, and putting the Government of Sierra Leone in a stronger bargaining position when negotiating mining deals. Tongo, a resource of 4.5 million carat diamonds

Tongo in Sierra Leone exports Rough samples of 1626 carats! According to the Stellar Diamonds has previously reported that the Diamond Project in Sierra Leone contains a JORC-compliant inferred historical resource of 4.5 million carats.   This resource is based on over 65,000m of drilling, which has delineated the kimberlite dykes to approximately 200m below surface.   Newfield Executive Director, Karl Smithson, commented: “We are rapidly nearing the conclusion of the Tongo Front-End Engineering Design programme with our technical partners PPM, SRK Consulting and Datamine. Final mine optimisation is ongoing and will be completed shortly.
