Sierra Leone launches 3 Mineral Policies
Charters
Artisanal Mining Policy too!
The
Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources informs the general public that the Hon
Vice President, Dr Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, officially launched the three (3)
Mineral Sector Policies on Thursday, 9th May 2019 at the Bintumani.
The
three (3) Mineral Sector Policies are the ‘Sierra Leone Minerals Policy’; ‘The
Geo-data Management Policy of Sierra Leone’; and the ‘Artisanal Mining Policy’.
1:
The Sierra Leone Minerals Policy:
This
Policy was prepared as part of series of legal, regulatory and institutional
reforms introduced by the Government to ensure that Sierra Leone maximizes
gains from the mineral resource endowments.
2:
The GEO-Data Management Policy of Sierra Leone:
This
Policy outlines how Government intends to manage geological information to help
all actors. It comes at a time when Government, with support from the World
Bank, is undertaking a countrywide airborne geophysical survey. Prudent
management of geological data is critical to Government’s long-term minerals
development strategy and this Policy provides the framework within which
Government will manage geological information.
3:
The Artisanal Mining Policy:
The
Artisanal Mining Policy for Sierra Leone provides broad guidelines on how
Government can better regulate the sub-sector, and maximise benefits for all
stakeholders. The three (3) Mineral Sector Policies are being uploaded on the NMA
website.
