Sierra Leone restores mineral rights

Imposed ban in August 2018 now lifted
Resumes processing of applications

The Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the National Minerals Agency (NMA) wish to inform the general public that after due consideration and certain measures, the suspension of the processing of application for mineral rights, which was imposed in August 2018, has been lifted, and the NMA has resumed processing of applications.

The Ministry of Mines and the NMA, therefore, encourage credible investors who wish to secure mining licences and other mineral rights to contact the NMA at New England Ville for further information. The Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the National Minerals Agency take this opportunity to assure the public of their commitment to ensure that the people of Sierra Leone derive maximum benefits from the mineral resources.

Earlier in the month of November 2018, Vice President, Sierra Leone had launched US$ 20 million World Bank project to boost mining in Sierra Leone. Delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, Hon. Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh expressed government’s profound gratitude to the World Bank for their tremendous support to the government and people of Sierra Leone over the years, noting that the transformation of extractive resource wealth to tangible development outcomes can only be achieved through effective governance of the mining sector, while taking into cognizance the need to mitigate the adverse environmental and social impact.

Now in the context Sierra Leone is moving ahead in the mining policy!
