Touchstone Award recognises effective enforcement of hallmarking in the UK! The NAJ has become joint sponsor of a British Hallmarking Council (BHC) Award for Trading Standards, reflecting the importance of the effective enforcement of hallmarking in the UK. The annual Touchstone Award recognises the Trading Standards team who deliver the most effective enforcement or educational initiative related to Hallmarking. The recent Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) Symposium in Brighton saw many Trading Standards Officers rewarded for their outstanding contributions to the Service and the prestigious Touchstone Award was amongst these. The award was presented by Andrew Hinds of F. Hinds, former Chair of the NAJ and a member of BHC. The impressive sterling silver award was won by Shared Regulatory Services (Cardiff, Bridgend and Vale of Glamorgan) for their ongoing hallmarking enforcement projects. The National Retail Federation urged the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative to avoid 25 percent tariffs on $300 billion in Chinese goods and released a new study examining key product categories and the negative impact on American consumers. “We support efforts to achieve better trade deals, but American consumers shouldn’t be caught in the crosshairs,” NRF Senior Vice President of Government Relations David French said during testimony prepared for a USTR hearing this afternoon. “It’s time to re-evaluate a strategy based solely on tariffs and work with our allies to put international pressure on China.” “For most of the consumer products on this list, there are very few alternative sources of supply,” French added. “It would be impossible for all market participants in our industry to simultaneously move sourcing to other countries. Botswana Diamonds receives permission to sell Diamonds recovered from Thorny River The Botswana Diamonds, associate Vutomi, received permission to sell diamonds recovered during bulk sampling at their Thorny River project. Untill, 256 carats of rough diamonds had been recovered. The sale of diamonds from bulk sampling will enable funding of further development by Vutomi. Trenching by Botswana Diamonds has identified a ‘hotspot’ at Thorny River with a thick kimberlite intersection of four metres wide, suggesting a kimberlite blow.  256 carats of rough diamonds have already been recovered from re-commissioning the processing plant.  The bulk sampling programme will generate short-term cash flow, whilst building the mineral resource.

The nominations period begins today and will close on July 24, 2019. Notices inviting submissions of nominations for both committees have been published in the Federal Register. Gemfields auction sales 962,211 carats Mozambican ruby fetches USD 51.99 per carat Gemfields announces the results of an auction of rough rubies in Singapore from 11 – 15 June 2019 & says, Ruby Auction had consisted of the 90 lots which were offered and 84 lots were sold that is equal to 93% with an Average price of USD 51.99 per carat. All together, the auction of rough rubies that 962,211 carats sold out of the 978,197 carats were offered shows an effective result 98% and that auction revenues being fetches of USD 50.0 million. One lot set a new all-time price-per-carat record for any Gemfields auction; and the twelve Gemfields auctions of MRM rubies held since June 2014 have generated USD 512.6 million in aggregate revenues. Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond mining company, ranked fourth globally and first in Russia among mining companies by total shareholder return (TSR) in the 2019 Value Creators report, a ranking compiled by The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). TSR is a key metric that shows the return to a company's shareholder, combining share price movements and dividends paid. The 2019 Value Creators ranking covers companies whose capitalisation exceeds USD 3.5 bn. According to the BCG analysts, Alrosa delivered an average TSR of 29.9% over the five years from 2014 through 2018, well above the industry’s median of 3.1%.
