Two ultra-rare bangles steal the show at Sotheby’s

                An Architectural Masterpiece of 63.66-carat pear-shaped achieves US$6m               A Sensational Jadeite Bangle of weighing 277.673 carats sells for US$3.9m   Two breathtaking bangles, each representing in their very own way the pinnacle of bracelet design, stole the show at Sotheby’s Hong Kong, a diamond and rock crystal bracelet combining the legendary artistry and craftsmanship of Cartier with a phenomenal 63.66-carat pear-shaped internally flawless white diamond, sold for HK$46,877,000 / US$6,036,350. A sensational jadeite bangle weighing 277.673 carats and described by the SSEF laboratory as “a true treasure of nature” achieved HK$30,425,000 / US$3,917,830.   Christie’s Auction from 4 to 18 November   Christie’s Important Jewels online auction from 4 to 18 November presents a diverse array of jewels dating from the late eighteenth century through to present day, from a group of Victorian insect brooches, opulent Belle Époque and Art Deco jewels, bold yellow gold gem-set and enamel designs from the 1960s to 1980s, and a wide selection of signed contemporary pieces by the world’s most renowned jewellery houses including Bulgari, Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Graff and Tiffany & Co. Christie’s Jewels Online: Summer Sparkle

Auction totals $1.49 million!   Results announced at Christie’s curated online sale Jewels Online: Summer Sparkle totaled $ $1,492,625 with 84% sold by lot. Additionally, the sale attracted 28% new registrants from over 20 countries. This was Christie’s first online-only auction dedicated to the world’s most sought-after gemstone the diamond.  The top lot of the sale was a spectacular jewel by Graff, suspending a 20.21 carat pear shaped yellow-brown diamond, set in a fine white diamond necklace, which sold for $325,000.   Other highlights included old mine brilliant-cut diamond ring of 12.02 carats, which realized $118,750; diamond ring of 4.80 carats that sold for $87,500; and a fancy yellow diamond ring of 8.16 carats, which achieved $81,250.  

Magnificence collection makes history

Maharajas & Mughal collection makes history at Christie’s  NY Christie’s salerooms witnessed history at New York on just passed June 19. Spanning over 500 years of history, the collection of Indian jewels and jewelled objects sells for $109.3 million! After a global tour that saw thousands of people flocking to Christie’s salerooms, a specially designed New York exhibition, and a 12-hour auction presided over by five auctioneers, the Maharajas & Mughal Magnificence  collection totalled $109,271,875 / £87,138,656 in New York-the highest for any auction of Indian art and Mughal objects, and the second highest for a private jewellery collection. Almost 400 lots were offered, ranging from legendary Golconda diamonds to dazzling coloured stones, jewelled objects used in the royal courts to swords and daggers once owned by Indian rulers. Following the record-breaking sale of Royal Jewels from the Bourbon Parma Family in November 2018, both jewels have prestigious provenance: they belonged to two influential women who in their time embodied the height of fashion and elegance. The first jewel is an Art Deco treasure, probably by Van Cleef & Arpels: a stunning emerald and diamond necklace created in the 1930s for Hélène Beaumont (1894 – 1988), an American socialite and close friend of the Duchess of Windsor. She settled on the French Riviera, where she held legendary parties and galas during the magical, hedonistic days of the 1920s and 1930s. Art Déco jewels offer at Sotheby’s Sotheby’s announces a new sale dedicated to Jewellery and Watches in Paris this autumn. This new date in the auction calendar, entitled Joaillerie Paris, will coincide with a double-anniversary this year for Sotheby’s in France: the auction house’s 50 years on French soil, and 20 years in the historic Galerie Charpentier. To mark the occasion, we will present Jewels and Watches from the late 19th and 20th century, alongside a small selection of contemporary creations, thus combining the emblematic with the original. Among the designs on offer will be pieces by France’s most illustrious jewellery houses such as Boucheron, Boivin, Cartier, M. Gérard, Sterlé, Van Cleef & Arpels and Chaumet, including jewels set with important diamonds, Kashmir sapphires and Burmese rubies.
