Extending tie with Womeng to support women and girls   This International Women’s Day, De Beers Group is proud to announce it has extended its partnership with WomEng for a further three years, expanding the reach to cover all four of the countries where De Beers discovers diamonds and placing a greater focus on supporting women and girls to pursue careers in sustainability-related fields.   The partnership will play an important role as De Beers strives to achieve its goal to engage 10,000 girls and women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) by 2030, as part of its wider Building Forever sustainability goals.   WomEng is a global, multi-award-winning social enterprise which helps engage and develop girls and women for the engineering and technology industries.   Nsanshi art crafts support for Solwezi women and girls   Kansanshi Mine’s women-run jewellery workshop, Nsanshi Art, has forged on with its mission to support and provide financial support to vulnerable women and girls in Solwezi District. Since it was set up earlier this year, the value-addition initiative has raised more than K32,000 through the sale and custom designing of jewellery pieces. The funds go towards financing programmes run by the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA).   In just a few months of operation, Nsanshi Art has moved from being a small workshop to an operational workspace with state-of-the-art machinery including a newly acquired laser cutter used in engraving. Two women artisanal gold miners from the Democratic Republic of Congo will be speaking at a series of events in Ottawa during Gender Equality Week about their first-hand experience as gold miners and women leaders in the conflict-affected country. Kahambu Vaherenie and Moza Zawadi are artisanal gold miners in a remote community in Congo’s north-eastern Ituri Province, paving the way for increased gender equality and women’s rights in the artisanal mining sector. Their visit to Canada is hosted by Canadian non-profit IMPACT. Funded by Global Affairs Canada, IMPACT has been working closely with women artisanal miners in Ituri—supporting their efforts towards equality and economic empowerment. The community has become the first in Congo to sell conflict-free, traceable, and legal gold on the international market through IMPACT’s Just Gold project. It happened the last week on September 12nd to 15th, Third World Meeting Mujeres Brillantes, where several women’s jewellery has met to discuss the progress of the association's creation in 2016 to the present day. The chosen city this time was Madrid, Spain during the prestigious Spanish Jewelry Show, Madrid Joya attended by members of the group from countries of Latin America and Europe. Unlike the First and Second World Meetings, which had more educational activities, the 2018 Meeting focused more on the commercial activities highlighting the members' brands.
